Recited today in the Office of Readings, Psalm 104 stood out to me in its beauty and depth, The pairing of the last sentence of the Psalm section with the doxology Is a statement of nature’s praise of its Creator.

You make springs gush forth in the valleys: *
they flow in between the hills.
They give drink to all the beasts of the field;
*
the wild asses quench their thirst.
On their banks dwell the birds of heaven;
*
from the branches they sing their song.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son,
 *
and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now,
*
and will be for ever. Amen.

The final sentence of this passage—“On their banks dwell the birds of heaven; from the branches they sing their song.”—struck me profoundly. On mornings when the birds are singing to greet the new day, I will now think of this verse. The birds are not just filling the air with their melodies; they are, in their own way, singing Glory to the Father....

Their song reflects the joy of simply being alive in the presence of their Creator. As I listen to their song, I am inspired to join them with my own heartsong:

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
